From: Air France - Married Segments

-New Air France policy regarding control of “married” flight segments
Air France wishes to inform our Travel Agent partners that booking class availability for connecting flights may vary according to the specific Origin-Destination cities requested and that our booking policy requires connecting flights to be booked from a single availability display from city of origin to city of destination. When an itinerary of connecting flights for a given Origin-Destination is booked, the segments are considered by Air France to be joined, or "married," meaning that these segments are inseparable and the subsequent rebooking or cancellation of any one flight segment must, at the same time, be applied to the connecting flight segment.
The practice of "unmarrying" such connecting flight segments (i.e. treating them separately) is contrary to Air France booking policy.
Examples of "unmarrying" include:
-booking a connecting flight to a fictitious destination for the purpose of securing availability in a desired booking class (whether or not the connecting flight is subsequently cancelled)
-quoting and/or ticketing a through fare to a passenger’s actual destination based on such a booking
Effective 01JUL07, any ticket issued based on "unmarried" connecting flight segments will be subject to an automatic Agency Debit Memo (ADM) in the amount of USD600. This amount will not be subject to adjustment or waiver under any circumstances. In order to avoid unnecessary ADMs, please ensure that your Agency complies with Air France booking policy by:
-booking flight segments only from the current availability display for the actual Origin and Destination cities of the passenger’s itinerary
-quoting fares based only on the booking class(es) you are actually able to confirm from such availability displays and only for the passenger’s actual itinerary
-never booking flights to a fictitious destination in order to find flight availability in a lower booking class
-never issuing a ticket based on "unmarried" connecting flight segments (i.e. flights booked separately rather than from an availability display for the actual Origin and Destination cities)
